AUSTRALIA’S postman has told the ABC he is glad he didn’t have to deal with a postman.

Key points:The Post Office says a “significant” amount of its mail is sent via postal servicesRobbinhood, which offers postal services to residents of Brisbane, has become a target for postal employeesMr Smith told the program the postal services were “one of the most important parts of the city’s identity”The postal service has a contract with the Queensland Government that expires in 2019Mr Smith said he hoped the postman would be given the chance to explain the “significant amount” of mail sent through its services.

“I think he’ll do it in a good way and I hope it will go to good use for the community,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Smith says he understands that postal services are “one for the people” but said there were times when he felt the postmen were “a little bit overworked”.

“We’ve got so many post offices and we’ve got thousands of workers working around the clock to make sure that the mail is delivered as efficiently as possible.”

It’s very important that they are a good example to other workers, that they understand what they’re doing.

“Mr Smith’s comments come after postal workers were threatened with termination over safety concerns in the Brisbane suburb of Robbinhood.

The union representing postal workers in Brisbane has said the threats are “disheartening” and that it will not back down.”

There are still many people who are still very upset with the behaviour of the postal workers and we will continue to raise this with the union to ensure that our rights are protected,” postal worker Chris Jones said.”

We have to have respect for the post office workers.

“Robbinown postal workers have also come under fire for what they say is a lack of respect for their role.

In August, postal workers from across the city were locked out of their post offices for days after a confrontation over safety.

The Robbinown Post Office has said that the threats have not affected the postal workforce, and there has been no disruption to postal services.
