Toyota and Comcast agree to settle antitrust complaints

Toyota and other big telecoms are settling antitrust complaints over their failure to offer customers equal access to broadband services and to take steps to curb anticompetitive practices.

The settlement resolves antitrust complaints brought by three consumer groups.

The companies will pay $10 million each to the US District Court for the Southern District of New York and $50 million each in penalties to the FTC and Justice Department.

The agreement also resolves pending antitrust claims filed by the New York Attorney General’s office.

The FTC, Justice Department, and Justice Antitrust Division are charged with enforcing antitrust laws.

The companies have agreed to a consent order to settle the complaints and also will pay a $50,000 fine.

In the consent order, the companies will stop pursuing litigation against each other.

The consent order also resolves an antitrust lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice against Comcast, Toyota, and other major telecoms.

The DOJ filed the antitrust complaint in August 2018, alleging that the telecoms were engaging in anticompetition practices by refusing to provide equal access and service to customers and by failing to take effective measures to curb the anticompetitiveness of their anticompromising activities.
